Suffice the Cravings: an Article by Britney Peters

What might happen if the internet crashed:

In the last few years the World Wide Web has become a sweet addiction. With the resent destruction of the Internet, people are faced with having to quit this addiction cold turkey. With the need of the entertainment and resources still in affect, people are searching for alternatives to the web. One of these new alternatives is the opening of a new line of libraries across the U.S.A. These libraries are funded by the government and will be houses to one of the biggest physical sources of information the world has ever scene.

Since the loss of the web on August 24, 2010 people have been rather distressed. Schools have contemplated closing down and many businesses have gone bankrupt. In hopes to stabilize society the government has put into action their plan of producing a line of the Great American Libraries. They hope to have opened their first one in New York City, by January of 2011. Although the World Wide Web can never really be replaced, the government hopes to be able to provide the next best thing. As head of the Library Association of the U.S.A stated “ we plan on bringing easily accessible knowledge to the nation, we cannot stand the thought of a ignorant nation!” Although no one knows exactly how helpful the governments approach will be, it is clear that they are doing their best to bring accessible knowledge to the masses.

The craving for knowledge and entertainment has recently been very evident. It is obvious that the government is taking action and they have laid out a few guidelines on how the Library system will work. In relation to payment, the plan is to have a system similar to how people paid for Internet. According to their needs and wants, people will pay monthly with a fixed rate. A new service of home delivery and pick up will also be available to any customers who want to pay a small extra fee. These services anticipate that people will feel more inclined to use libraries more often and thus bring suffice to the chaos of the death of the web.

The government’s plan for the Great American Libraries are meant to help people cope with the loss of the World Wide Web. Since Internet has become a thing of the past, the only way to fix things is to bring back libraries, something that has been on the back burner for too long. Americans are craving what the web used to fulfill and now this craving can be sufficed with the come back of libraries.
