Some people say that they think everyone would be just fine after some adjusting, since the world was perfectly fine before the internet and could still be. Yet others say that it would be just too hard.
“I think it would be chaos,” said Lisa Brewer, a student at Brigham Young University-Idaho, when asked what she thought the world would be like without the internet. “Our way of communicating with people these days is through the internet. And our source of information is the internet. We rely on it rather than books.”
Many places, including the BYU-Idaho campus, are even debating replacing their books with all online databases. This is just one example of how the internet is changing the world we live in. It is true, that if the internet disappeared, a lot of problems would be solved, such as pornography and internet addiction itself. People would start spending more time with their families. Of course there is always the fact that people could find porn elsewhere and could get addicted to something else rather than the internet. However, there would still be a significant change. The internet is simply too easy to get to at times.
But do the good things about the internet outweigh the bad? Because of the World Wide Web, business have boomed, friends and family members have reconnected, students have unlimited access to learning, and everything just seems to be, overall, easier to do. With the click of a button, a plane ticket to anywhere in the world can be bought. A friend can be found. A book can be read, an email sent, a business created. Simple.
Is the internet that vital of a part of our lives? Or is it just making the world a lazy place? The decision is yours. Will you be affected by it?
Is this what the internet does to you?
